In Coversation With: Luca Mainini
Luca Mainini is a self-taught Italian artist whose practice transforms the familiar language of fashion into something uncanny, surreal, and unforgettable. Known for his loud, bold, and bright collages, Mainini cuts and splices imagery from glossy magazines, subverting glamour to reveal the eccentricities, defects, and raw edges of pop culture.
What began as experimentation on his Tumblr a “laboratory” where images collided freely, has evolved into an internationally celebrated practice. His works have been featured in Anna Dello Russo, Vogue Korea, Swide Magazine, i-D, Vice and more, cementing his reputation as a visionary collagist and digital provocateur.
Mainini’s collaborations with fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Moschino, and style icon Anna Dello Russo, position him at the nexus of art and fashion. His dazzling GIF animations, including those created for Jeremy Scott’s debut at Moschino, push collage into new digital dimensions, making his work as unpredictable as it is visually addictive.

Please introduce yourself
Hi, my name is Luca Mainini, I'm an Italian collage and digital artist. I live in Italy in a small town near Alps in a house surrounded by greenery.
What new art or creative news can you share?
I'm working and studying artificial intelligence extensively. I'm currently working on short fashion films, entirely written by me and created with digital collage and artificial intelligence.
How do you think digital art shifts perspectives?
It's a difficult topic, and I think everyone has their own perspective on what's happening. Personally, as a film buff, artificial intelligence is allowing me to shoot and create videos as if I were a director. I think people see a great deal of creative freedom.

What do you want to see more of in the digital art world?
The opportunity for young talents to make their mark with their art.
What do you want to see less of in the digital art world?
Bad taste. Actually, even bad taste is interesting.
