Tequila Ocho Añejo

If you ever get a chance to visit Mexico, order a tequila and upon first tasting, you will realise those tequila experiences you first had in your youth in the UK do not represent the truth of this traditional spirit. Salt and lime are necessary in the UK to mask the flavour, but real tequila does not need to be hidden.

Fortunately, we are now starting to get proper tequila in the UK, meaning we no longer need to fly to Mexico to get the real experience, and Tequila Ocho is a fantastic example of this.

Tequila Ocho is the first tequila in the world to be 100% single-field, meaning every batch ever produced designates the name of the field and year of harvest, and most of Ocho’s fields fall within the coveted “Golden Triangle” – the area deemed to have the best terroir for growing blue agave for use in tequila production.

I’m a fan of their Añejo, which is aged one year exactly in American White Oak barrels, great neat or as the base of a cocktail such as their Café Old Fashioned.
