JPA Design Presents ‘Afterglow Frequencies’

An Immersive Wellness Installation for London Design Festival 2025

Each year, London Design Festival offers visitors the chance to experience the latest innovations in design, from bold architectural interventions to experimental material showcases. For the 2025 edition, global design studio JPA Design will present Afterglow Frequencies, an immersive, multi-sensory installation that explores the future of wellness-led design through light, sound, and space.

Known for its pioneering work in aviation, hospitality, and lifestyle interiors, JPA Design has consistently pushed the boundaries of what it means to create human-centred environments. With Afterglow Frequencies, the studio will transform its East London base into a wellness-focused experience that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of design.

Exploring Wellness Through Design

At its core, Afterglow Frequencies simulates the body’s natural circadian rhythm, guiding visitors on a journey from rest to revitalisation. The installation is divided into two zones: Sunset and Sunrise.

  • Sunset is a contemplative, dimly lit space designed to encourage stillness and inward reflection. Here, visitors are invited to disconnect from overstimulation and enter a meditative state.

  • Sunrise gradually lifts participants into a brighter, energising environment where biodynamic light and rhythmic soundscapes evoke feelings of renewal and awakening.

This transition mirrors the cycles of the body and mind, emphasising how design can be more than aesthetic—it can become a tool for restoration and balance.

Supporting the installation is a programme of guided sound baths led by sound therapist Simone Salvatici, whose sessions feature gongs, crystal bowls, and atmospheric tones. These live elements heighten the sensory journey, moving guests seamlessly from one emotional and physical state to another.

A Live Expression of JPA’s Design Ethos

JPA Design has built a reputation for embedding wellness principles into interiors that move—whether in aircraft cabins, luxury trains, or private yachts. Afterglow Frequencies is both an artistic exploration and a statement of intent: a demonstration that wellness should not be a secondary consideration in design, but its foundation.

Elliott Koehler, Creative Director at JPA Design, explains:

“With Afterglow Frequencies, we’re not only sharing a continuation of the Afterglow concept, but also our mentality behind how we design. This is an experience-led reflection of how we approach wellness as a foundational design tool, whether we’re shaping an aircraft cabin, premium resorts and hotels, or a product you use every day.”

The installation, therefore, functions as both an immersive exhibition and a manifesto, articulating how wellness-led thinking can shape the environments of the future.

Beyond the Installation: A Showcase of Innovation

In addition to the sensory experience, JPA Design will host a focused exhibition of recent wellness innovations. This will include:

  • The Afterglow Private Jet Interiors Concept is a forward-thinking vision for aviation cabins designed to restore passengers mid-flight.

  • A prototype SAD lamp, developed to combat the effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder through carefully calibrated light therapy.

  • Sustainable aviation comfort products, which highlight the studio’s commitment to environmentally responsible design while ensuring comfort at altitude.

Through sketches, models, and process visuals, visitors will gain insight into the studio’s iterative approach, revealing how research and experimentation shape their final concepts.

The Intersection of Design and Wellness

The presentation of Afterglow Frequencies at London Design Festival 2025 underscores a growing movement within the design world: the integration of wellness as a design principle rather than an optional add-on.

Design is no longer judged purely by its aesthetic or functional success; it is increasingly evaluated by its ability to support human wellbeing. In a post-pandemic world where stress, overstimulation, and disconnection have become everyday challenges, installations like Afterglow Frequencies suggest a way forward—design that restores, reconnects, and rebalances.

This approach resonates particularly strongly in the aviation and hospitality industries, where JPA Design continues to set the standard. Long-haul travel, once associated with fatigue and discomfort, can become an opportunity for recovery and rejuvenation when wellness-led thinking is embedded from the outset.

Why Afterglow Frequencies Matters

What makes this installation particularly significant for the London Design Festival 2025 is its ability to merge art, science, and human experience into one cohesive whole. By combining biodynamic lighting technology, sound therapy, and a narrative spatial journey, JPA Design is offering more than an exhibition—it is creating a living, breathing prototype of what the future of wellness design could look like.

Visitors are not passive observers, but participants, experiencing firsthand how carefully orchestrated design interventions can alter their mood, physiology, and mental clarity. In doing so, Afterglow Frequencies sets a precedent for how exhibitions can transcend spectacle to become transformative encounters.

London Design Festival 2025: A Stage for Innovation

Since its founding in 2003, the London Design Festival has been a platform for experimentation and global design dialogue. Each year, the festival transforms the city into a landscape of creativity, drawing together designers, architects, and innovators from across the world.

Afterglow Frequencies adds a distinctive perspective to the festival programme, highlighting how the future of design lies in its ability to create environments that nurture wellbeing. It reflects a shift in priorities for the industry: from designing for efficiency or luxury alone to designing for human restoration.

With Afterglow Frequencies, JPA Design is offering one of the most anticipated experiences of London Design Festival 2025. By merging immersive storytelling with wellness-led innovation, the installation prompts visitors to reevaluate how design impacts their bodies, minds, and daily lives.

From the Sunset and Sunrise journey to the sound baths of Simone Salvatici, and from the Afterglow private jet concept to sustainable aviation comfort solutions, the exhibition represents a holistic vision for the future of design.

For JPA Design, wellness is not a fleeting trend but a foundational principle—one that can reshape everything from a seat on a flight to the spaces we inhabit every day. Afterglow Frequencies is both an experience and a statement: a reminder that design, at its best, is not just about what we see, but how we feel.
